It's a second north west derby in as many weeks for Burnley as Wigan make the 35-mile trip across the M65 to Turf Moor, with the Clarets looking to return to winning ways in front of their own fans after defeat to fierce local rivals Blackburn last weekend.
Burnley are the first newly-promoted team in 27 years to win their first four top-flight home matches, since Watford achieved the same feat in 1982-83.
If the Clarets beat Wigan they will become only the fifth promoted side to win their opening five home matches of the season and the first in 28 years since Swansea in 1981-82.
Owen Coyle this week praised his opposite number Roberto Martinez for developing former club Swansea and Wigan both on and off the pitch, similarly to what he has done at Turf Moor. He also admitted comparisons between the two men are inevitable regarding styles of play and team ethics.
Wigan captain Mario Melchiot has told his team mates that after mixing it with the big boys this campaign it's about time they started to produce against the so-called lesser teams, starting with Burnley.
The Latics have beaten Chelsea and Aston Villa this term and drew with Manchester City last weekend. However, they have also been beaten by strugglers Wolves and Hull. Melchiot called for focus and that more respect be shown to the opposition.

• This will be the first top-flight clash between the two clubs, having previously met in all three lower divisions of English football.
• Burnley have only beaten Wigan twice in 16 meetings in all competitions: The Clarets emerged 3-0 victors in their first ever encounter in October 1983, while also winning the most recent match 1-0 in December 2004.
• Both of Burnley's triumphs over Wigan have come at Turf Moor.
• Three of the last five games between the clubs have ended 0-0.
Burnley
• The Clarets have conceded 23 goals in their last eight games in all competitions.
• However, only Chelsea (one) have let in fewer home goals than the two conceded by Burnley so far at Turf Moor.
• Owen Coyle's side have scored only one set-piece goal so far in the Premier League - the fewest in the division.
• Brian Jensen is the only survivor from the last meeting between the clubs nearly five years ago, though Robbie Blake was an unused substitute.
Wigan
• The Latics have lost 10 of their 14 Premier League away games during 2009. Their only victories came at Sunderland last campaign and at Aston Villa in this season's opener.
• If he plays, Jason Scotland will be making his 100th league appearance in England. He has scored 45 goals in 99 games for either Swansea or Wigan.
• Scotland, who was linked with Burnley in the summer, scored twice on his last visit to Turf Moor: a 2-0 win for Swansea over the Clarets last January in the Championship.
• Scotland has played under both Owen Coyle (St Johnstone) and Roberto Martinez (Swansea and Wigan).
