The 30-year-old midfielder could make his long-awaited return to Tigers colours tonight on the banks of the Thames against his former club Fulham.

Bullard, the club's record £5m signing, has been out since injuring his knee last January when landing awkwardly on his City debut as Phil Brown's men lost 2-0.

A return trip to London that is, like the game at Upton Park, being shown live on television, could mark his long-awaited return, albeit more than likely from the bench.

And Kilbane has echoed the views of many in the East Riding by welcoming back the former Wigan and Fulham man.

The Republic of Ireland international said: "It is a big bonus for us to have someone like Jimmy back involved.

"He is a big, big character on and off the pitch. But, first and foremost, he is a great player. He is a wonderful footballer and it is great to have his presence back.

"He has skill, composure and experience. And I am sure that is not something that will fade with the injury.

"You have only had to look at him in training this week to see what a naturally fit player he is, though it will take games over the next month or so before he is fully ready."

Bullard's imminent return is another welcome boost for Hull following the timely 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic in their last outing. The result may not have been enough to lift the Tigers out of the relegation zone but it did help ease the pressure on manager Phil Brown and give a welcome fillip to a side who before the meeting with the Latics had won just three of 36 league games.

Kilbane said: "We worked on a lot during the build-up to the Wigan and the next couple of games will need more of the same.

"The manager has highlighted how we worked as a team against Wigan and that has to be the way forward for us.

"We have got to be solid and compact as a side and if we give ourselves the platform, we have got a little bit of class about us to score a goal or two.

"It is about finding and keeping that team ethic. If we want to stay in the Premier League and pick up points, we have to be a team more than anything.
"We can't look too far ahead and think we've made it because you can get bitten very quickly. We can't go to Fulham and expect individuals to win it for us, we have to produce a team effort."

On tonight's opponents possibly being distracted by thoughts of Thursday night's Europa League tie against Roma, Kilbane added: "It is always going to be difficult for a team like Fulham in Europe.

"For all that they might think that the Premier League is their bread and butter, you always have those big games around the corner to turn your head," he added.

"They have got Roma on Thursday and they could have one eye on that."
