Tottenham's match with Stoke last season, almost a year ago to the day, provided a nadir of the Lilywhites' recent history. A 2-1 defeat, two men sent off, two points from eight games, bottom of the table - the axe was swift to fall on manager Juande Ramos.
They have not looked back from that day at the Britannia Stadium and, after last week's win over Portsmouth, boss Harry Redknapp officially completed a full Premier League season of 38 games in charge of Tottenham. His record of 19 wins, eight draws and 11 defeats would have been good enough to have finished in fifth place last season.
The battling victory over Pompey had Spurs fans agreeing in unison that it was a match they almost certainly would have lost in previous seasons.
There is a new resolve to be found at a club that has so often crumbled in the face of adversity and a win on Saturday would see them enter their next league match, the North London derby, above hated adversaries Arsenal in the table.
Stoke arrested a worrying run of four matches without a win by seeing off struggling West Ham last week and scored two goals for only the second time in the league this season.
Manager Tony Pulis will have been delighted to see James Beattie break his goal-scoring duck against the Hammers and he will need more of the same if his side are to triumph at a ground where they have only won once in their history.
